Getting things underway with the Premier and Minister

Off to a great start!

On 27 July the 2018 Premier's ANZAC Spirit School Prize students finally got together to be briefed on their upcoming study tour to Vietnam from 30 September - 15 October 2018.  The briefing provided plenty of crucial planning information that is important but nowhere as interesting as the session with Bronson Horan (President RSL SA) and four Vietnam Veterans. The veterans spoke eloquently and shared their perspectives of the Vietnam War and some interesting stories of their time in Vietnam in the 60's and 70's. Thanks greatly to Jock Statton, Tich Tyson, Frank Owen and Bob Kearney for spending time with us at this important planning event.

Minister Gardner addressing the students.

Following these sessions we were visited by the Honourable Steven Marshall, Premier of South Australia and the Honourable John Gardner MP, Minister for Education. The Premier delivered an excellent speech (http://anzaccentenary.sa.gov.au/speeches/premiers-speech-to-the-anzac-spirit-school-prize-winners/) followed by the presentation of certificates to the 2018 Premier's ANZAC Spirit School Prize students.

The Premier spent considerable time talking to the students and finding time to have plenty of photographs taken. All present were very appreciative of the time the Premier and Minister spent at the briefing to find out about the Premier's ANZAC Spirit School Prize initiative.

An impressive part of the session with the Premier and Minister were short speeches by some of the 2016 and 2017 Premier's ANZAC Spirit School Prize students who attended the briefing. The students spoke passionately and intelligently about their time doing the research for the prize and participating in the tour - some great speeches, delivered fantastically. Thanks to Samuel, Sophie, Charlotte (2016 students) Hannah, Lily, Lucy, Laura and Metala (2017 students) for being involved in the briefing for the 2018 students.

As the photographs on this posting show, it was a function to be proud of and I am sure will live with the students and parents for many years.

Now for the business of getting organised to get away to Vietnam on 30 September!
